What is a “Copay”?

If you elect a doctor Copay plan, you do not have to meet your deductible for office visits.  Simply pay the designated Copay at time of service. Some plans include a Copay for prescriptions and eye exams as well.

What is a “Deductible”?

Not including Copays, a deductible is the amount of medical expenses the insured is responsible for before the “Coinsurance” kicks in.  Deductibles are usually per person per calendar year. HSA plans, however, have a single deductible for the entire family.

(Most plans have a maximum of 2 deductibles per family. That means if 2 members meet the deductible, the others are waived. )

What is “Coinsurance”?

Coinsurance is the point where you and the insurance company share the expenses. It is usually applied after you have met your calendar year deductible. For example, an 80/20 of $5,000, you would pay 20% of the first $5,000 in charges ($1000) then the company pays 100% of the charges above $5,000. This limits your risks. The $1000 is often called a stop-loss or maximum out of pocket.

If you elect a 100% coinsurance, you do not have to share in the cost of expense after the deductible.  You go straight to 100%.

Would you like to have ZERO deductible and NO coinsurance out of pocket?

By purchasing a higher deductible plan and adding our “Bridge” plan, you still save premium and have virtually 100% coverage.
